These were a product of the knitathon weekend I had with Lorna. Bought from a relatively unglamorous but very good for yarn department store chain, they are made from Patons UK Colourworks Aran: basically itself a knitted rather than spun yarn – it’s a big long i-chord, with graduated colour changes from muddy brown to a deep rich russet.<\/p>\n

It’s also pretty big as yarns go – a proper “Aran”. I wanted to make sure I used as much of the yarn as possible so I knitted them toe up.<\/p>\n

Not long before starting these, I had made a pair of legwarmers (for my Australian niece, on request. Apparently they get worn more than you’d think) which were basically tubes in 2×2 rib. So I wanted to replicate that in sock form.<\/p>\n

I knitted toe up, doing a short row heel, then about an inch up from the heel I kicked in with the 2×2 rib and kept going until I ran out of yarn. The socks took a ball each – although I had to take a bit off the first one as the second ball of yarn apparently had roughly 4 rows less yarn on it.<\/p>\n

So, these can either be worn slouchy for additional ankle warmth, or pulled up for additional leg warmth.<\/p>\n

Plus, I have a ball left over so I could possibly make some matching wrist warmers…<\/p>\n
