It was hair-raising and the children wanted to stay up there much longer then I did. I never used to suffer vertigo until I had small children who look like they’re going to jump/fall off things!

We drove on through the Honister Pass (known glamorously to some as the B5289) over to the coast at Maryport, where we understood there to be an aquarium which was worth a visit.

Unfortunately, Joel fell asleep on the journey, and wet his pants. And not in a subtle way, either. And not really in a “he fell in a puddle” way, either. There are remarkably few children’s clothing shops in any of the tourist resorts we visit, especially when we need something fairly urgently. And I’m not well organised enough to bring changes of clothing with us. So the poor Tink had to go round the aquarium with a wet bot – fortunately it’s a bit gloomy in there, and by the time we were back outside, he was pretty much dry. So no major drama, and fortunately he was largely oblivious.

These were my favourite creatures at the aquarium.

…some kind of shrimp, but you don’t need a degree to work that out. Loving the stripy jackets. I also liked the wave pool, although didn’t get to spend much time there, as Lily was un-nerved by the loud splashing. Small steps for small children were provided, which is a really thoughtful gesture I haven’t seen anywhere else – other tourist attractions could take note!

And this is my children enjoying the adventure playground. Honestly, they are.

And I assure you – that’s just the way they’re standing…

Last full day of holiday.
