It scanned well, it stated most of the things that featured in my life at the time, some of them twice over, and so they stayed. I haven’t found a good reason to put anything more sophisticated up there yet.

So, on a word by word analysis, here you are:

Fluff.
I’m a girl. I sometimes do fluff – pink stuff, stuff with non-functional trim – when I relax and forget to be not who I am.
Also, this covers the trivial shit. Stuff that doesn’t *really* matter in the grand scheme of things, but which I find to be interesting, relevant, important, or funny.
This is also the one closest to my current unpaid obsession: knitting.
Fur.
I own a cat. I started the blog not long after Bruiser was the only small being I had dependent on me. In all the houses I’ve had since I got her, if you leave a square metre of carpet un-cleaned for 24 hours, it will almost certainly acquire some fluff. Bizarrely, although she has patches of light brown and black on her, all patches of fluff appear to be white. I fear that this means there are years of black & brown fluffy bits on my darker carpets…
Bugs.
I’m a programmer. Bugs are the bane of my life, and something I used to spend 90% of my working day dealing with. I program less these days, but computer bugs still hold a special place in my psyche.
This also covers very small creatures. I don’t have a problem with most of them, unless they leap out at me unexpectedly. I understand, though, that their presence in a middle-class western hemisphere reasonably well-off household, their presence is frowned upon.
Also, illnesses. As the parent of small children (now) and a husband who traditionally crashes & burns (up) once he stops working like a dog, bugs are rarely far from our door. This year, I have intermittently had a slight sniffle (or more to the point, a slight RAMMING HEADACHE and some snot) over a couple of months, which Steve is now referring to as my “09-10 cold”. Joyous.
Crumbs.
This is another reference to my housekeeping fetish. Also, whenever Steve looks at the kitchen table or floor he reaches for the broom or cloth. As a short-sighted person, I’d like to claim that I don’t see them clearly enough to notice. But really I do.
Also, my sister’s fave expression of surprise in early teenage years was “crumbs” and given that she is the main target audience of this blog, I thought it was quite funny to put it in there.
Poo.
I started blogging when I had 1 baby. I now have 2 children. Poo featured large in my life for a while there.
Now that the only nappies left in my life are on other people’s children, or Joel’s night-time pull-ups (he’ll thank me for that when he reads this back later. When he can read) the background meaning of this element is changing to refer to the poo that litters my life interacting with other people. As in “it’s all a bit shit, really, isn’t it”.

There’s no real element of my general doing-craft in my spare time thing. Associating fluff with knitting is a bit tenuous, and there’s nothing in there which points towards papercrafting or cross stitch. I’ve considered adding ” and craft” but I can’t help feeling it wouldn’t scan right.

So, there you go. Enough navel-gazing for now. On with the show!

For a while now, arguably since I started blogging with any regularity (more than once in several blue moons), my blog has had the tagline “Fluff, fur, bugs, crumbs and poo”.
