the weekend that almost never was

As I sat in work and watched the rain hammer down last Thursday, wearing a thick jumper in late May, I felt with a passion that I really didn’t want to go camping for the weekend.

The *only* attraction was the large amount of lovely relatives who we were supposed to be joining. However, we were the only ones going under canvas: everyone else had a caravan.

So we delayed departure until Steve’s Dad called and reported lovely weather and said rather pointedly that we were being missed.

It turns out the Lleyn Peninsula is in another weather zone from the rest of the country altogether. So we packed up and headed down on Sunday.

Once there we hit the beach at Abersoch and had a game of cricket (see action-Nana in action)

Where Lily & Joel collected seaweed and shells (see how Lily’s dressed for the beach? Sparkle is _never_ inappropriate for a 7 year old).

And Uncle Dave helped to make a jetski and a big sand castle…

After a slight bit of wind & rain overnight, we struck out again for the beach, this time at Morffa Nefyn, where the weather was utterly glorious.

…and I got a bit of knitting time. It would probably be un-gallant of me to mention that Nana fell into a rock pool. Although I wasn’t un-gallant enough to take a picture of her all wet and sea-weedy…

The next day was hometime, but instead of rushing home we stopped off at Greenwood Forest Park. It’s roughly a tenner each to get in, but it’s worth every penny. We arrived at about 11:30am and didn’t leave until 5pm (when the big bouncy cushion closed). Here’s a flavour of our day…

aaaaand we're done, people are bored now

This is the barefoot trail. You have to go round in bare feet. It’s surprisingly cold. I went round once and carped the whole way round. Lily went round three times. Yes, three.

This is the new zip slide swamp ride. It goes from side to side of the park and is £4 extra. Thank goodness it’s not open yet.

So, we got home at bedtime. After an unpromising start, then, a good weekend!
