Malabrigo Loafers by cocoknits.
Started:30th June 2012
First one finished 1st July 2012. Failed to make a note of when the second one was finished *sigh*. Here’s my Ravelry link…
Made with King Cole Fashion Aran, shade 369 (dark teal) for Lorna’s 40th birthday present… (Lorna is a friend I met when we were both in the first year at High School. I could pretend to hide her age, but what’s the point…) The yarn is used doubled throughout, hence you buy two balls and use about half of each of them. I have yet to weight the left-overs, but I’m pretty sure I have enough to make myself another pair.
I chose this pattern because it was in Lorna’s favourites. I’m hoping she liked the look of the finished article as well as looking forward to the challenge of making the slippers… I also got non-slip sole thingies as Lorna & Matthias have quite a few shiny floors, and I don’t want to be accused of trying to bump her off (literally). The one thing I needed to be aware of, however, is that synthetic yarns and medium-hot irons don’t mix that well. I like to think I’ve just hastened the process of the sole stitches being a bit flatter.
In more positive comments, these were super-quick to make and not technically hard. I made a large proportion of these while watching the modern version of The Poseidon Adventure. Not quite up to the classic original, but still plenty of claustrophobia. On the screen, where I like it.
The buttons were also from knit-wise, my LYS – I had bought one to go on another secret project which I’ve since decided is better without fripperies, so I got another one to go with it, and have added them here. Where they count less as fripperies, and more as accents.
Feedback is that they have gone down well. Now to make myself a pair…!
