Smashing times

Joel has broken two things in the past couple of days. Things we’ve had for years, and could rightly have been quite upset about. However, at the end of the day it’s just stuff.

The first thing was a bowl which my mum made, and which we keep fruit and mix cakes in. Joel dropped it while moving it from room to room, and was really worried he was going to be punished. He was concerned because Granny had made it. I was more worried that I’m a useful bowl down.

The other was the kitchen clock. Steve has had this clock for about 20 years. It’s unremarkable, but fulfils a telling-the-time function. It was knocked off the wall in an arm-waving conversation, and the perspex cover broke off, and couldn’t be fixed back on. Arguably, we *could* keep the clock as it is (and if the truth were my known, probably will for more time than is decent), but it’s not the same…

Given that stuff is reputed to happen in threes, I’m just hoping that the third and final item won’t be too sentimentally or financially valuable…
