camping weekend #1: Criccieth

I’ve selected some quality classics from our camping weekends & put them into sets. This is largely for the benefit of my father, who thinks we take too many photos & don’t filter before showing them.

Here’s the link to the chronologically first set: CRICCIETH

We returned to the farthest point of last year’s castle-fest, Criccieth. The site wasa a bit of a hilly one, on the side of the hill just to the East of Criccieth. We revisited the beach – it’s still lovely. We didn’t revisit the castle – it’s a bit too stressful!

We tried to go to the Electric Mountain power station, which is sadly FORBIDDEN to the under-4s. This only came to light after a long drive and only when Steve was checking Joel’s footware was appropriate. The staff were quite rude and there was no acknowledgement that refusing to let us in on health & safety small print might be in any way a disappointment for us. Complaining has been done.

So, we recovered from that crushing blow & went on to Caernavon castle. Well worth it!

At the campsite, an older boy told Joel he was too little to play on the swings so that he could play in them instead. That was quite a low point. Another boy gave him a bouncy ball. That was better.

We went to I-forget-the-name forest country park on Sunday just outside Caernavon, where they have a massive bouncy pillow trampoline, a big slide & an eco-friendly roller coaster. And a very hammy magician. That was pretty good VFM, even in the slight rain. The large friendly fluffy bunny was a surprise hit. Joel particularly liked the big slide, but was too scared to go on the rollercoaster. Good call, I think – after the crocodile ride at Flamingo Land, this one could have finished him off.

Not a perfect weather weekend, and we were all a bit strung out, but a good start. We worked out other things we needed. Like warm sleeping bags, and a lamp. And a jumper for Steve. Next: Eskdale.
