ready for take-off

After nearly 2 years of knitting my second full size laceweight shawl, I can finally announce that Icarus is nearly ready for takeoff. It’s off the needles, there’s just the small matter of finishing off blocking to be done.

I did the last few rows (at nearly half an hour per row) on the daily commute, since once you’ve memorised the pattern for the row you can just plough on until the end of the row and put the patterns away.

Also, things went faster when I gave myself permission to finish mid-row, meaning I could do 1.5 rows per journey… it’s the small things that make all the difference it seems!

So, here’s how it looks now. It has a recipient lined up for when it’s properly finished.

It’s made in a 100% Merino cobweb laceweight yarn, bought from anjelajays of eBay fame (mainly because she sells her laceweight in balls rather than skeins… 😉 ) which is lovely and light as the name suggests, and not too warm for the height of summer.

I have another laceweight shawl lined up to do with the rest of this yarn now. Yes, because I’m a masochist.
