Chatsworth House – tick!

This weekend I am on what we are labelling an Old Lady holiday in Derbyshire with Lorna. We went to Chatsworth House, which I have driven past on the M1 about a bajillion times but have never visited.

My highlights include…

The world’s largest vase. You can see the joins, but it’s a marvellous thing of wonder & awe. I had Lorna stand beside it for scale.

A fireplace surrounded by carvings of hanging game. Utterly delightful.

I actually though this picture a real hidden gem. She looks lovely and I hope she wasn’t always this wistful.

I love how wrinkly this elephant is. It was in the first of a series of rooms with bamboo & birds wallpaper. Which were all predominantly green.

I now really, really want a wall of pictures of erupting volcanoes. Why did I not think of this before? Volcano art. It’s an actual Thing.

This looks a lot like a light fitting I saw through the window at my boss’ Buxton mansion. Turns out they’re all the rage.

The golden window frames are a nice touch, we thought, but they’re only on the side of the house you can see from the drive. How shallow.
