Gardening – day 2 and still at it

Time kinda got away from me somewhere today. As Steve was valiantly tackling the shopping list in the timewarp at Kew Tesco, I went through our new gardening book to plan out when vegetables should be planted through the year and laid it out in a pretty spreadsheet. My plan is to overlay this with Kitchen Revolution requirements and attempt a match. At some point.

Later in the afternoon I was able to spend just over an hour in the garden, with some help, and with visible results.

Hopefully you can see, if you click through: no litter and a smaller amount of rhubarb, and the fence marginally less all-over-the-place.

So, what we did today was:

  • picked up litter/recycling and allocated as appropriate
  • cut back some of the lilac branches
  • put a broken concrete fence panel & broken wooden panel back in their approximate intended locations
  • turned over some of the compost heap/s and spread some mature compost on the newly turned ground
  • Lily caught a frog (and then let it go)
  • turned over a bit more ground
  • picked some rhubarb
So, here’s the compost heap now…
The one on the left has a new layer of rhubarb leaves and is home to Horace the frog. I fed him some slugs while rooting through the right hand side for potatoes. You remember the potatoes I didn’t plant? These are totally not potatoes…
That’s probably about 2/3 of what’s in there.
Another of today’s discoveries is this (below). Apparently 2 litre coke bottles *can* fail under the strain of elderflower champagne…

So then I thought I’d better drink some quickly just in case it was all about to blow!
