Finally, I get around to blogging another day of our half term break. The day didn’t start well, when we headed for the Puzzling Place, to find we were there an hour before it opened. So, in the rain, we returned to base and under Granny’s supervision, pumpkins were a-carved.
When we knew it would be open, we headed for The Puzzling Place. It’s great! We were particularly impressed with the skewed perspective room and the on-a-slope room.
After a bite of lunch, we headed in the direction of Cat Bells, to re-live memories of me being dragged up the hills when I was only slightly older than Joel is now. We were lucky with parking spaces, vacated by people who were doing the walk “properly” and so were just coming back, and discovered that it’s a very sharp, steep climb for quite a while. Granny & Grandad stopped at the base of the Hilary Step, Fraser, Gemma & Lily were seen disappearing gazelle-like over the quite near, but still pretty unattainable for me & Joel, horizon. Aunty Karen manfully trekked up to bring them back, and apparently Fraser was quite peeved at us curtailing the climb. Joel & I waited for them to come back down…

We reunited at the bottom of the step (where, at one point, I thought I’d broken Joel’s arm – not a good moment) and had a quick picnic-ette/snack, then trundled on down…

…and road-tested the pumpkins. Good day.
