gone all YarnHarlot (a bit)

This is the second attempt at writing this post. The first was a masterpiece, but the blog ate it with no warning. If it eats this one, I may not write it again…

I’ve been meaning, for a while, to try and blog more regularly – it was a beginning of November resolution, if you will. However, certain things got in the way, such as work, the small people I look after, and so on with the excuses.

Also, for a while I’ve felt that I need to make more of an effort with the photography if I’m pitching to a wider audience than my sister & my bezzy. The blogs I admire such as yarnharlot.ca & soulemama.com have stunning photographs. In the case of the latter, she even manages to make piles of small children look stylish & never has piles of random crap in the background.

I have several excuses here – I’m not home in daylight hours at the moment during the week, and also every time I come to take a picture of my knitting I tend to think “there isn’t much progress there – maybe I should do more before blogging it…”  and I just end up knitting instead. My second excuse is that I have 3 cameras at my disposal (bear with me here). The first, my phone, is surprisingly good for a phone, but is still pretty low res & has no flash (which is usually a good thing, actually. We have a medium camera, unfortunately its charger has gone AWOL & is suspected to be in Steve’s car, which is currently at the menders. We also have a “proper” camera, which I should get out more often because it takes fabulous pictures effortlessly, but for some reason I feel self-conscious using, even in a room by myself.

So, very little happened. If I’m honest, work was the biggest thing that got in the way, and not being able to focus on anything else in a meaningful way for a short while.

However, when Stephanie (yarnharlot.ca) said she was taking a break from her almost-daily posting due to offline personal issues, I thought “this is the spur I need – I’ll help out with the posting vacuum that will ensue” and resolved to post maybe not daily, but at least several times a week.

It’s quite telling that since that thought went through my head, I haven’t posted *at all* and Stephanie has posted 3 times.

However, with the recent snow I’ve been inspired to take a heap of knitting out to the garden and get decent photos in the searing while light. I did it while the children were out, so there are no grinning faces at the corner of the picture like usual.

Another important feature of any blog, apart from content, good photos & regularity is finding the writer’s “voice”, part of which may be self-reference & development of themes. With that it mind, I give you the Bonsai Tree:

Still alive, do we think?
